Mt. Vernon Added

After being unable to play the Northeast Vernon County, Sherwood, and Liberal games, we’ve been trying to add a game for quite some time. We finally have a match. We will travel to Mt. Vernon to play them at 5:00 tomorrow. Bus time is 2:30. This will complete our regular season schedule as most other teams begin district play on Saturday. We appreciate the support this season and look forward to seeing you at our last home game against Lamar today at 4:30!

Game 21: ELDO 4, Fair Play 2

The Bulldogs found ways to manufacture runs in a quick, well played ballgame.  The Bulldogs found themselves behind early before getting a lead. The Hornets were able to tie it up in the 5th before the Bulldogs took the lead for good in the bottom of the  inning.

The Bulldogs said goodbye to five seniors in a pregame ceremony honoring them and their parents.

Senior Garrett Mays established a new single season stolen bases record in the first inning by swiping second. Mays stole three bases in the game to put his total at 29 for the season.

Senior Kyle McCullick threw seven solid innings to earn the win for El Dorado Springs. Kyle allowed 2 runs, 1 bb, 1 hbp, 4 hits, and struck out 8.

More info and a box score to come.

Don’t forget the last home baseball game of the 2012 season will be tomorrow versus Lamar at 4:30. The game will be varsity only.

Schedule Changes

We are at the time of the year where there are daily schedule changes due to rain and conference games having priority.

Wednesday, May 9 will be our Lamar make up date.  This is varsity only.

Thursday, May 10 has been canceled with Liberal.  Liberal has conference games to make up and they take priority.  We are looking for a replacement game on Thursday.

Game 20: Pembroke Hill 5, ELDO 2

With 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th with the bases empty, Pembroke Hill was able to wage a rally that plated 3 runs to steal the game.  “We played pretty good baseball all day,” Coach Osborne said.  “There was no one play that cost us the game.  We failed to score twice by leaving a runner on third base today.  We need to take every opportunity we get and cash it in.”

MSHSAA Going to Five Classes

The vote is in. Five classes it is. The change will be made for next season. A few thoughts on this… it’s great for our athletes as it creates more championship opportunities. It lowers district sizes. It evens the competitive field.

If this were to have happened this year, Nevada, Pleasant Hill, and Clinton would no longer be in our district. That is the #1, #2, and heavily debated #4/5. As you can see, it evens up competition immediately.

El Dorado Springs will stay at Class 3. Teams moving up to 3A would include Strafford, Stockton, Conway, Pleasant Hope, Clever, Sherwood, Butler, Diamond, Sarcoxie, and possibly Ash Grove. This will change the districts and scheduling dramatically. El Dorado Springs schedule has dramatically improved in the quality and size of team we play since the move to 3A. This change will allow the Bulldogs to be more competitive in Class 3 as the Bulldogs will play schools more consistent with their size. It brings the baseball program back to where they have been in the past in a level where the Bulldogs can compete for a championship year in and out. It fits perfectly.
